It's Ranty Time!

My thought was occasioned by this post: by a concerned teacher lamenting the current policies for teaching language skills.

I will never understand this. How can anyone think this kind of teaching benefits children? The ability to use language is a fundamental tool of thought and communication. When you put your ideas into words, you have to think them out in detail and make them more vivid and powerful. Not all thought is verbal, but words are the engine of thought, translating ideas into reality.

In my opinion, to not give children the tools to use their language is dehumanizing. My ancestors didn't climb down from the trees/be formed out of dust and the breath of God only to give up their humanity in exchange for self-esteem.
